The Northeast Creek basin has White Store and Creedmoor series soils in the uplands and Chewacla series soils in the floodplains. The USDA soil survey of Durham County maps the soils of Durham County by soil series, which is the lowest level of of the USDA soil taxonomy. The USDA soil taxonomy classifies soils into orders, suborders, great groups, subgroups, families, and series. The USDA Soil Series Classification Database presents the data that classifies soil series using this taxonomy.

Chewacla Series

Chewacla series soils are classified in the Inceptisols order, Udepts suborder, Dystrudepts (soil formed in loose unconsolidated sediments at the base of hills in humid climates)great group, Fluvaquentic (floodplain) subgroup modifier (making the classification Fluvaquentic Dystrudepts . The family classification of Chewacla soils includes the attributes for particle size (fine loamy), mineralogy (mixed), cation exchange capacity or CEC (active), and soil temperature (thermic). Thermic soils have mean (average) temperatures between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius (59 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit).

Creedmoor Series

Creedmoor series soils are classified in the Ultisols order, Udults (humid climates) suborder, Hapludults great group, Typic subgroup modifier (making the classification Typic Hapludults). The family classification of Creedmoor soils includes the attributes for particle size (fine), mineralogy (mixed), cation exchange capacity or CEC (semiactive), and soil temperature (thermic). Thermic soils have mean (average) temperatures between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius (59 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit).

White Store Series

White Store series soils are classified in the Alfisols order, Udalfs (humid climate) suborder, Hapludalfs great group, Oxyaquic Vertic subgroup modifier (making the classification Oxyaquic Vertic Hapludalfs). The family classification of White Store soils includes the attributes for particle size (fine), mineralogy (mixed), cation exchange capacity or CEC (active), and soil temperature (thermic). Thermic soils have mean (average) temperatures between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius (59 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit).
